Story
Why tutorHER was founded
As a veteran tutor of 3+ years with Kid By Kid, a brother non-profit organization to tutorHER, founder Keira Dunn wanted to continue the legacy of the successful student-led tutoring model with its own unique setup. Keira wanted to help kids through tutoring and mentoring with an extra focus on the empowerment of girls in the younger generations.
Through this, tutorHER was founded: a nonprofit organization designed to educate female students in academics and self-confidence with older mentors partnered to uplift them. tutorHER focuses on spreading the 'girls support girls' mentality, as we believe girls need to stick together and uplift each other. After leaving for college, Keira tranferred tutorHER to Abigail Smith who currently heads the organization. Abigail is also a veteran tutor of Kid By Kid. She now hopes to carry on the legacy of supporting the empowerment of girls in younger generations.
Breaking the Learning Barrier
Academic blockades impacting underserved students is a growing problem in the world, and has been emphasized by the Covid-19 pandemic and social isolation.
Under-resourced younger female communities can also face new language and cultural barriers alongside possible academic struggles, and many schools have limited resources to assist the kids in their learning paths. Adult tutors can be costly and intense, and tutorHER strives to create a safe environment run by Middle and High school girls for Middle and Elementary school girls to learn and grow.
